Biography

Co-Pierre Georg is a Professor at the University of Cape Town, where he holds the DSINRF Dual Research Chair in Blockchain Technologies. Before, he held the South African Reserve Bank Research Chair in Financial Stability Studies. He obtained his PhD in 2011 from the University of Jena and later joined the Deutsche Bundesbank Research Centre, where he held a part-time position after joining the University of Cape Town in 2013. At UCT, Co-Pierre established a master's degree in financial technology and is the Director of the UCT Financial Innovation Hub. He is a Research Associate at the Oxford Martin School for the 21st Century and at the Center for Global Legal Transformation at Columbia University. He held visiting positions at EPFL, MIT, Columbia, Oxford, and Princeton. He has worked on financial and social interconnections, and in his recent work he is particularly interested in privacy in distributed systems, digital property rights, and cyber security.
